Jaisalmer Overnight Tour From Jodhpur: Our Desert Getaway
My partner and I experienced the Jaisalmer overnight tour from Jodhpur, complete with camel ride and desert camp. Here's our honest take on both days.
Our Take on the Jaisalmer Overnight Tour From Jodhpur as a Couple
One proper desert night together was exactly what we wanted, and the Jaisalmer Overnight Tour from Jodhpur gave us precisely that. Here's our honest account of the two days with Hii Stories.
Day 1, Setting Off From Jodhpur
Waiting for us at the Jodhpur airport exit was our chauffeur with a name sign, and the drive to Jaisalmer spanned roughly 285 to 300 km, close to 5 to 6 hours on the road. Conversation carried most of the journey, and we were glad neither of us had to navigate the unfamiliar route ourselves.
Exploring Jaisalmer Fort as a Pair
Known as Sonar Quila, the Golden Fort holds UNESCO World Heritage status as one of the largest fully preserved fortified cities in existence. Walking through it side by side, the sheer scale genuinely caught us off guard, a living city tucked inside fort walls rather than a simple monument.
Patwon ki Haveli
The elaborate wall paintings and finely carved sandstone balconies here produced some of our favourite photos from the entire trip. Neither of us clocked the brown gateway against the yellow sandstone facade until our guide pointed it out.
Trying Craft Demonstrations Together
Watching stone carving up close, the very technique behind the Havelis and Jain temples we'd already seen, gave us a real sense of the skill required. The textile embroidery demo that followed introduced us to traditional Rajasthani mirror work, and we walked away with a small piece from a local boutique.
Gadisar Lake, Bada Bagh, and Tazia Tower
Gadisar Lake brought a calmer stretch to the middle of the day, while Bada Bagh's history, dating back to the 16th century, added weight before Tazia Tower rounded off the sightseeing with some of the most detailed architecture we saw anywhere in Jaisalmer.
An Evening at the Desert Camp
This was the part we'd been most excited about. Reaching the desert camp for cultural performances and dinner beneath the stars together made the whole trip feel worthwhile even before day two began.
Day 2, Sunrise Over the Thar Desert
We chose the camel safari over the jeep, and crossing the golden sand dunes together as the sun rose over the Thar Desert is a moment we're still bringing up. Breakfast at the camp afterward wrapped up the desert leg perfectly.
Heading Back to Jodhpur
The return journey took about 5 hours in a comfortable private AC car, smooth and scenic enough that the distance never bothered either of us. We were dropped exactly where we'd requested in Jodhpur.
What Made This Suit Us as a Couple
- Private transport throughout meant our own pace, no group schedule involved
- The desert camp evening delivered a genuinely romantic end to day one
- Picking the camel safari over the jeep option made sunrise feel far more immersive together
Suggestions for Other Couples Considering This
- Reserve the desert camp ahead of time, it isn't automatically bundled into the base package
- Bring warm layers even in the desert, nights turn surprisingly cold
- For more time in the dunes, the Desert Safari Jaisalmer from Jodhpur or the 8 Days Golden Triangle with Jodhpur & Jaisalmer are both worth weighing
Where We Landed
The Jaisalmer Overnight Tour from Jodhpur packed history, craft, and a genuine desert night together into one well paced trip. Looking back, the sunrise camel ride and the desert camp evening stood out as the clear highlights of our whole Rajasthan trip.
If a trip like this appeals to you and a partner, tell Hii Stories the kind of desert experience you're after and they'll plan the two days around it, camel or jeep, whichever you prefer.
