1 Day Delhi City Tour: My Solo Traveller's Honest Take
I turned a long layover into the 1 day Delhi city tour, done entirely solo. Here's my honest take on what fit into 7 hours and whether it delivered.
My Take on the 1 Day Delhi City Tour as a Solo Traveller
A long layover felt like too much time to waste sitting around the airport, so I turned it into an actual visit. Here's my honest review of the 1 Day Delhi City Tour, done entirely on my own through Hii Stories.
Why Solo Made Sense
With only one day and nobody else's pace to think about, going alone meant I set the rhythm of the whole day myself. For a layover style trip like this, that kind of flexibility ended up mattering more than I'd expected.
Getting Picked Up
My chauffeur was already at the Delhi airport exit with a name sign, no confusion at all despite landing solo with no local contact to call ahead. Simple, and one less concern on an already tight schedule.
Jama Masjid
This opening stop set the tone right away, one of India's largest mosques with a courtyard that felt massive even early in the day. Travelling solo meant lingering as long as I liked without anyone else waiting around.
Humayun's Tomb
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of my genuine favourites of the day. The symmetrical gardens surrounding it, paired with knowing it directly inspired the Taj Mahal, gave this single stop more depth than I'd expected from a packed itinerary.
Qutub Minar
Rising over 70 metres, the world's tallest brick minaret hits harder in person than any photo manages to capture. The detailed carvings made this an easy highlight, even weaving through a fairly crowded site at my own pace.
Birla Mandir
A calmer, quieter stop compared to what came before. White marble, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, and a welcome change of tempo halfway through the day.
Lotus Temple
The lotus shaped design impresses from a distance and holds up even closer. Open to every faith, and remarkably peaceful inside despite the steady flow of visitors.
Lodhi Gardens
A good spot to slow down before the day came to a close, 15th century tombs scattered across a genuine green park. Being solo turned this into more of an actual break than just another item on the list.
What Worked in My Favour Travelling Alone
- A private car and guide meant never having to sync pace with anyone else
- No group timing to follow, I could linger anywhere that caught my interest
- The guide tailored explanations to what I was actually curious about, not a rehearsed script
Worth Knowing Before Booking Solo
- Meals stay separate, plan for that on your own
- Entrance fees to the monuments come as an added cost
- This tour suits layovers particularly well, built around 6 to 8 hours depending on traffic and pace
Wanting More Time in Delhi
This 1 day version handles the essentials solidly, but the 2 Days Delhi City Tour works in India Gate, Parliament House, and extra breathing room if one day feels rushed for you. Heading toward Agra afterward, the Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour from Delhi and the Agra City Tour from Delhi are both worth a look too.
Where I Land on This
Taking on the 1 Day Delhi City Tour solo turned a potentially wasted layover into a genuinely worthwhile day of sightseeing. The pace was entirely mine, and having a private guide meant I never felt lost navigating an unfamiliar city by myself.
If something similar fits your own layover, tell Hii Stories your window between flights and they'll build the day around your actual timing, solo travellers welcome.
